Jolts

Teaching jolts are “experiential activities that lull participants into behaving in a comfortable way and then suddenly deliver a powerful wakeup call. Jolts force participants to re-examine their assumptions and habitual behaviors. A typical jolt lasts for less than five minutes but provides enough insights for a lengthy debriefing.” [1]

I first encountered the term from Dr. Thiagi (the world’s foremost authority on interactive learning) who, among many other books, wrote one titled Jolts! [2]. For an example and more details on the concept, visit Thiagi’s Toolkit.
